Hello, I’m Jocelyn Rojas. I have always been passionate about education and art. As a divergent thinker, creativity is central to my being. After becoming a new mother during the global pandemic; I found that art was no longer just a form of personal expression, it also became a way to connect and engage with my child. This experience deepened my desire to learn how to nurture children’s developing minds, emotional intelligence, and resilience through art. I believe that art should be accessible to everyone regardless of socioeconomic status. My goal as an artist is to create work that challenges others to think critically about social and economic inequalities in education.
I am transitioning from my previous role as an active-duty Staff Sergeant in the USAF Specializing in Aircraft Structural Maintenance to become an art educator. I am currently attending George Mason University to get my BFA in Graphic Design and master’s in art education. This career shift allows me to better align my values with my professional goals.
At George Mason, I’ve been learning typography and graphic design using Adobe Applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I enjoy exploring all art forms and mediums and have currently been working with repurposing found material.
As a photographer, I am drawn to the preservation of memory and the relationship between art and ecology. I capture the beauty of nature, as well as everyday human experiences and connections with loved ones. Some of my photography has been exhibited at Open Space Arts in Woodbridge, VA. My collection features a series on pollinating species observed at Neabsco Park in Woodbridge, as well as a series on native plant and animal species in Quito, Ecuador. My work offers a glimpse into a rich land and culture while highlighting the importance of conservation and protecting our environment for future generations.
