Prompt: (Head & Shoulders, Torso, Hips, and legs) Create a Fantasy Creature. (Given time constraints, unable to see previous work due to how we fold the paper and are only allowed to use Sharpie so we can’t erase/ commit to our drawing strokes.
Thoughts on exercise: We did this exercise in class to kick off our first studio exploration and kept the one that we started with and were given time to make the three parts look cohesive as well as color in our work using the medium we chose for our studio exploration. In the beginning, I was anxious about having a time limit and not being able to erase. Still, these parameters were freeing in some ways. They had me working quickly on my artistic instincts and not thinking so hard about what I was doing. I let the creative juices flow naturally and see what happens. I loved this exercise because it started the class off well and allowed me to experiment with my first medium for my studio exploration. I was relieved I picked oil pastels because they are so vibrant and quick to apply so I think it worked well for the time constraints we had when it came to using color in the drawing. They were also fun to work with which is what matters most in the end.
